New Toy, I Mean Tool!
Just a quick note because I’m exhausted and making sleep a priority tonight, but I thought my new netbook bears mentioning
I’ve been thinking about buying one for quite awhile, basically since I carted my Macbook in my messenger bag to the Centre and the strap almost amputated my arm at the shoulder. That and after going back and trying to read my quickly jotted notes which made no sense months after the class they were taken, I realized going back to typing them was the way to go, especially I saw French students doing it. It’s a nifty little Acer Aspire One D250 which weighs in at just under three pounds and theoretically comes with some pretty nifty features. I say “theoretically” because I basically had to perform an exorcism to break Windows 7 Starter Edition’s wicked grasp on it before it would move faster than a hobbled snail dragging cinder blocks. I tried putting on Windows 7 Professional that I bought a few months ago to use on my Mac thinking then I could use Office 2007 Ultimate which I also bought, but thanks to Microsoft’s anti-consumer “guilty until proven otherwise” authentication system, I might have just as well used the money spent buying legal copies to light cigarettes that I wouldn’t smoke. Blergh.
Shortly after buying the netbook, I met Eric, Whitney and her friends Gabby and Christine, and Lise for dinner at Café Jade. It was a pretty enjoyable evening, but between the cocktails, good company, and their excellent selection of croque sandwiches, we couldn’t really go wrong. Sadly, after dinner, it was time to run to get back to reading, but happily, if I stay on target, I should have an incredibly huge chunk of it done by Sunday evening which will be fantastic!
As I’m falling asleep and I’m pretty sure this entry is about as deep as a puddle if not completely incoherent, I think I’ll wrap things up. If there’s one take home message, it’s THANK GOD IT’S FRIDAY!!!
